For the last two weeks, we have been studying about worship. My husband has been leading Bible study on Wednesday nights, and he is doing a wonderful job. I see our hearts opening up and being set free. I see a hunger for the Word of God, and more, I see a growing desire to share what we are learning with others; to exemplify (show) what we are learning of God with others.
THIS MY FRIEND IS WORSHIP.
There are two passages of scripture that, to me, which defines worship:
1) Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV): “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
2) Mark 12:29-31 (NIV): “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
This brings me to the Ten Commandments that the scriptures above are based on. You will find it in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21. PEASE READ BOTH PASSAGES. Many years ago, I read and/or heard that the first part of the Ten Commandments ( Exodus 20:1-11 and Deuteronomy 5:6-15) Speaks about loving God. The second part of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:12-17 and Deuteronomy 5:16-21) speaks about loving your neighbor.
You may be asking yourself, WHAT IS YOUR POINT?
The point is that it is in the presence of God (showing our love and adoration, basking in His Love, getting to know him, being changed and rearranged (renewed and refreshed) that we experience the first part of worship. The second part of worship is taking what you have received and giving it away to your neighbor.
Who is your neighbor? Everyone and anyone outside of yourself.
UNDERSTAND THIS: Worship is a continuous state of mind as well as a time set apart. It will vary with the person and your situation. Worship is not about what you do to express worship. It is about your heart before God and allowing him to transform you.
The Resting Place (Worship)
Reluctantly I leave this place where God and I are one. Reluctantly I leave this place in the presence of the Son, and slowly I go back to man to do what I must do. And slowly I go once again to share the heart of You. For I have “seen” the face of God, as clear as I can see. Yes, I have seen Your precious Grace and carry it with me. I feel Your smile and hear Your voice so resonant and low. It stays with me throughout the day, so in you I can flow. And now I come to You again to rest where we are one, And now I come to You again in the presence of the Son. Pamela M. McGee
