“Vengeance is Mine,” says the Lord.

What does that mean and why are people so afraid to talk about it, read about it or share this truth?

I have a theory: I believe it is the fact that Christians have forgotten or do not realize that God is Love. 1 John 4:7-21. The world does not know, love or understand who God is. They have an excuse, but as Christians, we should know that God is Love and understand this truth more and more as we grow in Him. This comes through reading the Word (Bible) and spending time with the Lord as a way of life.

There is nothing that God has ever done, not done, said or not said that wasn’t motivated by Love, because Love is who He is. It is His very nature. If we are like Him and growing in His likeness (image), we call this the Salvation Process, we must not do or say anything that is not motivated by God’s Love.

Understand this, God hates sin, wickedness, evil, etc., but He Loves His creation. No one understood that more than Jesus who is our Savior, Lord, Prince of Peace, etc. John 1:1-5, 9-14, 17,18;3:16-21.

There is a song by Brian and Jenn Johnson, “Where You Go I Go”: “…Jesus only did what He saw You do. Jesus only said what He heard You speak. Jesus only moved when He felt You lead, following Your heart, following Your Spirit. So how could I begin to walk without You when everything that Jesus did was in surrender. I will not begin to live without You, for You alone are worthy and You alone are good. Where You go I go. What You say I say, God, and what You pray I pray and what You pray I pray…”

Everything Jesus did or did not do, said or did not say, prayed or did not pray was because of love for the Father (who is Love) and His Love for us. John5:16-30; 6:35-40; 12:44-50.

Vengeance should never be what fuels us, but the Love of the Father who is Love. It is hard for us not to be impacted by a world that is growing increasingly darker. Matthew 24: 12 states: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations and then the end will come.” King David struggled with this in Psalm 139:19-24, but after sharing his frustration, he humbled his heart to God, asking Him to lead him in “the way everlasting”.

What does “Vengeance belong to the Lord” mean? It means God will deal with sin. Psalm, chapters 10-19; John 2:13-17. That is His job, and He will judge righteously through Jesus Christ, His Son. Isaiah 34:8; Romans 12:17-21; Acts17:24-31.

So what does that free us to do? We are free to do, go, say and pray (in the other words act) in the power of God’s Love. Leviticus 19:18. What ever we do in God, in the name of Jesus, must be done in Love because to do anything in any other spirit is death. 1 Peter 3:8-18. I am not saying to compromise who we are in Christ. There is no compromising because God is Holy and so we must also be. I am saying that we love the sinner even while we hate the sin. Jude 22;23.
