Yesterday morning, as I opened my Bible, A note fell out. I often write notes as Holy Spirit leads, and stick them in my bible cover for a time when the Lord would have me share it. I am going to share the definition of the word, Sustain, from The New Webster’s Encyclopedic Dictionary of the English Language:
Sustain: 1) To support, hold or bear up from below; bear weight of. 2) To bear (a burden, charge(a responsibility), etc. 3) To undergo or suffer (injury, loss). 4) To endure without giving way or yielding. 5) To keep (a person, the spirits, etc.) from giving way, as under trial or affliction. 6) To keep up or keep going, as an action or process; maintain: to sustain a conversation. 7) To supply with food, drink and other necessities of life. 8) To provide for by furnishing means or funds. 9) To support by aid (help) or approval. 10) To uphold as valid (sound), just or correct: The judge sustained the lawyer’s objection. 11) To confirm or corroborate (to make more certain) facts.
Scriptures: Hebrews 1:1-4; Psalm 18:30-36; 119:113-120; 146; 147:1-11; Isaiah 50.
Matthew 11:28 (NIV): “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Isaiah 40: 26-31 (NIV): “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. Even youth grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings of eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
Hebrews 4:9-11 (NIV): “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His. Let us make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4.
