Compromising the Truth of the Gospel in Song.

John 4:23,24 (NIV, Zondervan):

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in Truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is Spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in Truth.”

We know that worshiping is not about music, song or voice (the ability to sing). Worship is the attitude of the heart of those who belong to God; what ever we do, we do in worship to show our adoration and respect of God, to glorify Him. It does not matter if we are washing clothes, taking care of our children, working, washing our car, smiling at a stranger (I think you get the picture), we do it as unto the Lord. Matthew 7:21-23; 25:31-46; 1 Corinthians 13:1-3; Ephesians 6:7,8; Colossians 3:,24.

Two passages in Psalms that exemplifies, for me, the heart of worship is: Psalms 27:4-6; 84. The book of Revelation gives us a glimpse of what heavenly worship looks like and why God is worthy: Revelation 4:8-11; 5:9-14; 7:9-17; 11:15-18; 15:1-4; 19:1-9.

With these things in mind, have you ever sung a Christian song that was playing on the radio, your CD’s, Spotify or on You tube, etc. and came to a screeching, grinding halt because a line or phrase in the song was not biblical? Oh yes they rhymed, but they were NOT true.

PLEASE DON’T GET ME WRONG. THERE ARE SONGS THAT HAVE ANNOINTING AND ARE DEEPER AND TRUER THAN EVER BEFORE BECAUSE OF THE SONG WRITER’S AND SINGER’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD OUR GOD, but there are many that are not.

Have you asked yourself why so many “Christian” songs use words in substitution for Jesus like heaven and love? Believe me, I have no problem singing about heaven or love, but they exist because of our Father in Heaven and the unfailing love demonstrated by God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

When we substitute the name of Jesus for other words we do so because the world has no problem with the words, “heaven and love. They do have a problem with the name of Jesus, the name above all names. Hebrews, chapters 1-6.

I write books, poetry, prose, lyrics and commentaries. I do it prayerfully and do my best to represent what is of God, reverently. From time to time I will look at things I have written and see that what I knew of God then does not hold up to what I know now. I change those writings and some go to the shredder because I want to represent God accurately in a heart of worship. I pray for worship leaders and Christian performers/artists. If Lucifer/Satan could fall so can we. Isaiah 14:12-17; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Luke 10:17-20; Revelation 12:7-9. No amount of money or recognition is worth such a fall and the fall of all who follow a person’s music and/or their gifting. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Matthew 16:24-27; Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:21-26.
