The Entrance of Sin

Eve was deceived, but Adam was not.

James 1:13-15 (NIV Zondervan): “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown gives birth to death.”

Why? Because sin separates us from God, WHO IS LIFE.

Genesis 1:26-3:24

In the beginning:

Genesis 1:26-30: a) God said, “Let Us make mankind in Our image.” Genesis 1:26. b) God gave man dominion (authority) over the earth: 1) All living creatures. Genesis 1:28. 2)Every seed-bearing plant and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. Genesis 1:29,30.

The account of the heavens and the earth when the Lord God made them:

Genesis 2:4-25: a) Adam. 2:7. b) The Garden of Eden where God placed Adam. In the middle of the Garden was the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Genesis 2:8,9,15. c) God’s command and warning to Adam: “You are free to eat from any tree in the Garden, but you must NOT eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:16,17. d) Adam names all the animals, but there was no suitable helper to be found for Adam. Genesis 2:18-20. God creates Eve from one of Adam’s ribs. Genesis 2:21-25.

The Fall:

The serpent: a) “Was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made.” Genesis 3:1. b) he deceives Eve. Genesis 3:1-6. c) Adam was not deceived: 1) He was with Eve. 2) He ate of the fruit Eve gave him from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. d) Their eyes were opened. e) They realized they were naked (exposed). Before they felt no shame because they were spiritually clothed in God (His righteousness). Now that was gone and they covered themselves with fig leaves. f) Adam and Eve hid from God because their deed (sin) exposed. Genesis 3:7-11. g) Adam blames God and Eve, but does not take responsibility for his disobedience (sin). Genesis 3:12. h) Eve answers honestly. Genesis 3:13.

The consequence of sin: reaping what was sown:

a) starting with the serpent. b) Eve c) then Adam. Genesis 3:14-20.

God’s Mercy: a) Made garments of skin and clothed Adam and Eve. b) Did not allow them to eat from the Tree of Life and “live forever” (in this fallen state): God banished “the man” (and his wife) from the Garden of Eden “to work the ground from which he was taken. God placed on the east side of the Garden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the Tree of Life. Genesis3:21-24.

Romans 7:14-25 shows the spiritual battle within us during the salvation process (as we are being restored to God’s image), and Jesus Christ as our Rescuer/Savior.

Romans 5:12-21 shows that death came through Adam, but Life comes through Jesus Christ. What Adam started, Jesus finished. John 18:28-30.

Romans 6:1-23 shows that we are dead to sin and Alive in Christ.

Jesus did not abandon us on this earth when He went back to the Father, but sent us the Holy Spirit. John 14:15-18, 25-31.

Revelation 22:12-21 is Jesus’ invitation to those who are His and warning to those who are not, and our responsibility to handle the word of God as workers who need not be ashamed and correctly handle the word of Truth. 2 Timothy 2:15.

John14:30: “I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. HE HAS NO HOLD OVER ME, but he comes so that world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my father has commanded me. Come now; let us leave.”

To the best of our ability, let us live as people who live in the victory that Jesus Christ paid such a high price to rescue us from sin, not only to share this reality to with the lost, but to glorify our heavenly Father.
