I loved this song (a secular song with a calypso beat which was popular and was on the Pop Chart for a time). From the first time I heard it, I immediately thought of the Lord. As the years have passed this song has gained more significance as I grow in the Lord. Recently I pulled up the lyrics. I was surprised at the words. Back in my day before there were personal computers and the only people who could see who they were talking to were the Jetsons and the only people who communicated by wrist watch was Dick Tracy (For those who are too young to know what I’m talking about, just Google it-Lol), we would sing our favorite songs and totally annihilate the lyrics because we sung what we thought we were hearing instead of what was actually written and/or didn’t know the story behind the words.
I am going to share this song with you right now:
I Can See Clearly Now – song by Jimmy Cliff
I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone. All of the bad feelings have disappeared. Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies. Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies.
I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day. It’s going to be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Bri-ri-ri-ri, bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day, yah, eh. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day. It’s gonna be a bright (bright)Bright (bright) sunshiny day, yeah, na it’s going to be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
This is a song of hope, but there is no hope apart from Jesus Christ. I am convinced that this person had been through a “valley of the shadow of death” and emerged from it far wiser than when he entered. I do not know this man or anything about his life story, but I do know that as a Christian that there are lessons to learn from what we experience on this journey back Home, and that these lessons are not for us alone, but to share with others to help them in their journey in Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:7-18.
Genesis 9:1-17; Psalm 42; Isaiah 40:27-31; 2 Timothy 4:1-8; Hebrews 12:1-12.
John 1: 1-14: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made. In Him was Life, and that Life was the Light of all mankind The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that Light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the Light; he came only as a witness to the Light. The True Light that gives Light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not recognize Him. Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh, and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His Glory, the Glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.”
John 3:16-21 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal Life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of Light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and will not come into the Light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the Truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
