What does it mean to be a Rescuer: A rescuer is someone(s) who frees a person(s) from restraint (bondage), violence and/or danger.
There are many Rescuers in this world: From the people we usually think of: Soldiers, Firefighters, EMTs, Doctors, Nurses, Police Enforcers, Organizations that rescues people (children and adults) from sex traffickers, Doctors, Nurses, etc. to people we don’t usually think of as Rescuers: Parents, Teachers, Social Workers, Pastors, etc.
You may think much or not so much of these people that I have mentioned, but if these people suddenly disappeared, this would be a more horrible place and time than we could ever imagine. I thank God for the men and women who have laid and continue to lay their lives down everyday for us. The thing is, for the most part, this type of rescuing is temporal, just in or for this life, this side of Heaven.
Now I want to talk about the Rescuer of mankind, Jesus Christ. Because what Jesus did on the Cross is ETERNAL (Forever).
NOTE: All scriptures references are from (NIV-Zondervan Publishing, unless otherwise stated). Some words will be Capitalized or put in parenthesis for emphasis.
Romans 5:6-11: “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own Love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him. For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His Life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Just what does it mean to be RECONCILED: It means to cause to be friendly or peaceable again; to bring into agreement or harmony; to RESTORE.
Romans 5:12-21: “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned- To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Romans 6:11-14). Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam (Genesis 1-3), who is a pattern of the One to come. But the Gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man (Adam), how much more did God’s Grace and the Gift that came by the Grace of the One Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the Gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s (Adam’s) sin: The judgement followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the Gift followed many trespasses and brought Justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man (Adam), death reigned through that one man (Adam), how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of Grace and of the Gift of Righteousness reign in the life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also One Righteous Act resulted in Justification and Life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man (Adam) the many were made sinners, so also through the Obedience of the One Man (Jesus) the many will be made Righteous. The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase (be made manifest). But where sin increased, Grace increased all the more, so that just as sin reigned in death, so Grace might reign through Righteousness to bring Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:19-23.
Jesus left Heaven and came down to earth to save (rescue) man from the sin of turning away from God. John 17:1-5; Revelation 5. That sin would open the door to all the sins we now see manifested, and that sin would lead to death. James 1:13-15. Death means separation from God who is Life. Jesus died on the cross. Jesus took our place. We deserved the punishment, but Jesus took the punishment for us (Isaiah 53), but it didn’t stop there. He descended into Hell and took the keys of Death and Hell. Revelation 1:17,18. He rose victoriously on the Third Day, restoring the relationship ( covenant/communion) that we once had with God; which we broke in turning away from God. Matthew 281:10; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24; John 20; Acts 1:1-11.
All we have to do is Believe and Receive. That requires us to repent (turn away) from our ways and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Ephesians 4:17- 5:20.
Jesus has instructed us to share this Good News with everyone so that they can receive what we have been given in Christ. Why? Because He does not want anyone to perish, but have Eternal Life. Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Luke 24:46-53; John 3:16-21; Acts 1:6-11; Peter 3:8; Jude verses 17-25.
So in sharing the Gospel, the Good News, we are sharing the Word that continues to Rescue (Save) those who are lost, in the name of our Savior (Rescuer) Jesus Christ.
