The Heart of a Bond Servant

May 8, 2024

It started with me waking up – Praise God!

I was feeling very weary. I was trying to pray for myself, family, the church family: our Pastors and the families who attend our church and extended family. Then the song, That’s My King, by CeCe Winans came to me and I was instantly refreshed. You owe it to yourself to pull up the official video of, That’s My King, on You Tube. That song was followed by, Doulos, by Kemper Crabb. This song was introduced to me by a young woman in the early 1980’s. I still have the album, yes, I said, “Album.” I am going to share straight from the album jacket:

Doulos: “Doulos is a Greek word that means Bond Servant. In the New Testament times, it was not uncommon for a freed slave to voluntarily re-enter servitude to a master whom he loved. This servitude was called Bond Service. ONLY A FREED SLAVE COULD BE A BOND-SERVANT AND ONCE HE HAD CHOSEN TO BECOME ONE, HE COULD NEVER BE FREED AGAIN. NEITHER COULD HE BE BOUGHT OR SOLD, AND HE SERVED HIS MASTER UNTIL DEATH. When a man chose Bond Service, he was taken to the front of the house, and his right ear was laid against the door-post. A nail was driven through his right ear and a Golden Earring was placed in it. This Golden Earring was a symbol to all of the servant’s choice and of his immunity to being made merchandise. Paul and Peter spoke of themselves as being Bond-Servants to Christ. THERE IS A SERVICE WHOSE TRUE NAME IS FREEDOM. (1 Peter 2:15-17; Luke 12:37) For Louise Witte. Words and Music by Kemper Crabb”

The following scriptures will support the above (NIV)

Deuteronomy 15:12-17; Exodus 21:2-6; Romans 6:15-23; Titus 1:1-4; James 1:1; 2Peter 1:1,2; Jude1:1,2.

Romans 6:20-23, “When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you are free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. for the Wages of sin is death. but the Gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In the world we now live in, where everything captures our attention, only to demand more, it is good to know that there is only One who is worthy of our attention, our honor, our love, our praise, our worship and our obedience…that’s our King. Psalm 27; 84.

THIS IS NOT JUST FOR MEN. THIS IS FOR WOMEN AS WELL, HANDMAIDENS OF GOD. Jesus came that ALL of mankind would be set FREE.

Remember: Only a slave of this world that is FREED can be a true bond-servant of Christ (Saved).
